Motorcyclists’ clothing depends on the type of motorcycle and the way of riding:
- For heavy and large motorcycles such as Harley-Davidson Road King or Honda Gold Wing. Motorcyclists use a leather jacket and a helmet with a visor. These motorcycles are usually used for long trips, and therefore it is necessary to protect from wind, cold, and other weather conditions.
- For sports motorcycles such as Suzuki GSX-R or Yamaha YZF-R1. These motorcycles are designed to move at high speed, so it is necessary for motorcyclists to be maximally protected from falls. Therefore, in addition to the mandatory helmet with a visor, motorcyclists wear a moto suit with hard protective elements for the shoulders, elbows, and knees, as well as moto boots. A trend among sports motorcyclists is to choose the same color for their leather suit and helmet as their bike. So, while riding, they blend in with the bike – in blue for Yamaha, green for Kawasaki, or red for Honda.
- For off-road motorcycles such as Honda CRF or KTM EXC. Motorcyclists need protection for their head and face from stones, dust, and other obstacles on their way. Therefore, they use special cross helmets. To protect their body from obstacles while riding in nature and at the same time not restrict their movements, they wear thick clothes.
Leather
Each type of motorcycle has a specific look, and so does the clothing of their riders. But leather is in many ways ideal for motorcyclists’ clothing. It offers warmth, protection in case of sliding on rough surfaces, protection against rain or debris, and when dyed black, hides accumulated dirt.
